Friends of the C&A Depot
The Friends of the Chicago & Alton Depot was established in June 1994. This was in response to the potential demolition of the depot by the Gateway Western Railroad. The railroad company was sympathetic to preservation efforts but was also concerned about liability and economic issues. They gave the city a limited time in which to move or demolish the structure. In February 1996, the depot was moved to the present location. Exterior restoration was completed in 1998 and the interior completed in 2003.
